LAUREN LEFEBER HAS NEVER BEEN AFRAID OF HARD WORK
“Work hard and it pays off.” Those were the first six words Lauren Lefeber shared with us as we sat down at Velocity Sports Performance for an interview. The Charlotte Catholic Junior is one of the top lacrosse players in the South Charlotte area and that didn’t come by accident. It came with hard work and dedication to her sport. Lauren is the daughter of John and Charlanye Lefeber and has been playing lacrosse since her freshman year.
With a successful background in soccer, Lauren decided to pick up lacrosse after watching her brother play. Success came from the start thanks to a lot of great coaching.
“I believe my soccer background helped, but I had a lot of great coaches teaching and supporting me,” Lauren said. I quickly developed a passion for the game of lacrosse.”
When Lauren began playing lacrosse, she was a student at Weddington High School. Playing for the head coach Amanda Hughes, she led the team with 88 ground balls and scored 26 goals. For her efforts, she was selected to the North Carolina Great 38 All-Star team and named Weddington MVP.
That same season, she joined the Queen City Stars, an elite lacrosse team. In the summer of 2006, Lauren led the team in scoring and was named team captain.
During Lauren’s sophomore season at Weddington, she continued to improve and grow in her love for the game. She led the Warriors with 63 goals, 89 ground balls and 128 shots. Lauren was selected for the 2007 US Lacrosse Lower Atlantic National Team, was named all-state and all-conference and was selected for the North Carolina East-West All-Star game among other honors.
For her junior year, Lauren transferred to Charlotte Catholic High School where she will play for head coach Dee Bier this spring. Lauren will make a solid addition to the Cougars team. Last season the Cougars went 18-3 and were ranked # 4 in the state.
“I am excited about playing for Catholic this season. They have a very good team and I already knew a lot of their players.”
It’s important to note that Lauren is a very fast runner, helping her on the lacrosse field. In winter track last season, she ran a 29.5 second 200 meters.
Lauren’s plan is to keep working hard and prepare herself for the opportunity to play college lacrosse.
Her trainer at Velocity Sports Performance, Jed Hartigan speaks highly of Lauren.
“Lauren works very hard, she is very fluid and one of the hardest working girls I know. She will ask questions to learn more and always makes fast improvements.”
As Lauren looks back on the last two years of lacrosse she offers this thought.
“I started out not knowing I could go anywhere in the sport. I have made friends, grown as a person and gone through so many challenges. You never know what you can accomplish if you don’t work hard.”
Away from the lacrosse field, Lauren is an A/B Honor Roll student. Her favorite subjects are creative writing and English. She hopes to major in Elementary Education in college.
Lauren has accomplished so much by working hard and striving to do her best. We salute her and send out our wishes for a very successful lacrosse season!
