Chris Panko Wins Huntington Learning Center Student Athlete Award
Cuthbertson High School football player Chris Panko has been named the Union County Student Athlete of the Week, Powered by Huntington Learning Center. The son of Ron and Joy Panko plays strong safety and outside linebacker for the Cavaliers. He wears jersey number 22, the same worn by his older brother Matt three years before at Cuthbertson. Chris says Matt has been such a positive role model in his life.
As a four year starter for Cuthbertson , Chris has become a dominant force for the team. He currently leads Union County in tackles made. Chris and the team are focused on earning another trip to the state playoffs. Last season, the team upset Alexander Central in the first round when Chris made an interception to seal the victory. Following graduation, Chris would like to play college football and he holds offers from Brown, Presbyterian, Butler, Dayton and Centre College at this time.
Inside the classroom, Chris carries a 4.143 grade point average and he is enrolled in Honors and AP classes. He would like to study Engineering in college.
Chris and teammate Davis Walker developed a new tradition for the team this year. Before each home game, the Cavaliers are honoring a local hero by inviting the hero to the game and presenting them with an engraved framed American flag on the field prior to kickoff.
