Cuthbertson High School senior Jack Berkowitz has been named the Union County Student Athlete of the Week, Powered by Huntington Learning Center.  The 17 year old son of Rich and Lorraine Berkowitz is one of the top bowlers in the area.

After joining his first youth league in 2010, Jack has continued to improve and to raise his score.  He was recently awarded with a college scholarship to bowl for Savannah College of Art and Design.

Bowling runs in Jack’s family.

“Both of my parents bowled competitively in high school and I’m related to Andy Varipapa, a well-known professional bowler from the 1940s, famous for his trick shots.”

Jack has competed nationally in many events.  He finished as high as 369th out of 1.419 bowlers in the National Championship in Cleveland this past year.  He carries a 195 average and is working hard to take that above 200.  Jack’s high score to date is 279 and in that game, he bowled 10 strikes.  In practice with his coach, he has hit 14 strikes in a row before.

Inside the classroom, Jack carries a 3.4 grade point average and is excited about attending college.  Congratulations to Jack Berkowitz for being named the Union County Student Athlete of the Week, Powered by Huntington Learning Center.
