Abby Heiskell Named Union County Student-Athlete of the Week
Marvin Ridge High School senior Abby Heiskell
has been named the Union County Student-Athlete
of the Week, Powered by Huntington Learning
Center. The 17 year old daughter of John and Marie
Heiskell is a Junior Olympic National All Around,
Bars and Vault Champion. She has been working on
her craft since starting gymnastics at the age of seven.
Abby says her favorite memories usually come in
big meets. “My favorite memories are from big meets
like the Nastia Liukin Cup. The experience of competing
in a televised meet, in a huge arena is unique and
special. The first year I qualified, the meet took place
at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. The jumbotron
was huge! The past few years, the event has taken place
at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.”
With her gymnastic success, Abby has been able to make
a verbal commitment to attend the University of Michigan
to continue her education and gymnastics career. “I attended
a camp at Michigan the summer before my 9th grade year.
I knew from that point Michigan was where I wanted to be.
I was looking for a good balance between academics and
athletics and Michigan could provide that. I also really liked
the coaching staff.”
Abby is a very hard worker, she practices 25 hours a week
to perfect her skills. She also works hard in the classroom
and carries a 4.42 grade point average. Abby is enrolled in
many honors and AP classes at Marvin Ridge.
Congratulations to Abby Heiskell for being named the Union
County Student-Athlete of the Week, Powered by Huntington
