Meryl Johnson has been named the Union County Student-Athlete
of the Week, Powered by Huntington Learning Center. The 15 year
old daughter of Phil and Shannon Johnson plays Attack and Middle
positions. Her season with Weddington was highlighted by a win
over Chapel Hill to move her team into the final four of the state
championship for the first time in school history.

Meryl earned a spot on the North Carolina State Team which
competed in the National Tournament at Yale recently. After
playing lacrosse since childhood, this was one of her top
accomplishments to date.

Meryl enjoys the fast pace of lacrosse. “The most exciting thing
about playing lacrosse to me is how high scoring and fast paced it is.
Even if your team is down with not much time, you are never out of it!
I just love playing and competing out on that field during a game,
it never gets old.”

Inside the classroom, Meryl is an excellent student with a 4.0
grade point average. She is a member of the Teens for Levine Club,
Key Club and Riley’s Catch at Weddington High School.

Congratulations to Meryl Johnson for being named the Union County
Student-Athlete of the Week, Powered by Huntington Learning Center.
