Marvin Ridge High School junior soccer player Blake Sutherland has enjoyed great success both on
the soccer field and inside the classroom. The 17 year old daughter of Chris and Amy Sutherland plays mid
-field and forward for the Mavericks. Along with her teammates, the Mavericks are aiming to win a state
championship. Blake has built an impressive resume over the last few years, filled with both 3v3 and full
team success. She has an affinity for the 3v3 game and has traveled across the country to play.

“My favorite form of soccer is 3v3. It’s faster paced and goals are more frequent. A couple of years back my
3v3 team went to the National Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. We won
the Championship but the most intense game was the semi-final. We won with a golden goal in overtime.”

Her full squad resume has also been filled with big time victories.

“For many years I have been a part of a team that has consistently played at the highest level of soccer. As a team we won
State Cup, Jefferson Cup, and the Disney Jr. Showcase and ranked, at one point, the #1 team in the nation.”

Blake enjoys the intensity she finds on the soccer field.

“The most exciting thing is playing in high intensity games with and against the best players and coming out on top.
Also nothing can beat traveling and experiencing the highs and lows of soccer with your best friends.”

The same level of soccer intensity follows Blake inside the classroom where she carries a 4.95 grade
point average.

Blake is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club and Mu Alpha Theta. She is
also very active in community service projects, especially the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“We held a carwash to raise funds for JDRF at my school. Our soccer team also walks in a 5K for JDRF
at Carowinds to raise funds. I participate in the walk as a part of a team for my friend who has diabetes.
I have been a part of this annual event for three years.”

Blake will also go on a mission trip to Haiti this summer.

The South Charlotte Sports Report salutes Blake Sutherland for her commitment to athletics and
academic success. We wish her the very best going into the summer and onto her senior year at Marvin
Ridge.
