Charlotte Country Day School lacrosse player Luca Katz is working hard to close
an outstanding prep career out on a high note. The son of Bobby and Tina Katz
serves as team captain for the lacrosse team, a position he also held this fall
with the football team. Luca will attend Hamilton College in the fall where he will
be a member of the football team. Let’s go Beyond The Game with Luca Katz.

What is your favorite sports
memory?

“My favorite sports memory is winning
the middle school lacrosse championship
in 8th grade. This event strengthened
my relationships with my teammates
and helped fortify my passion for
lacrosse.”

What do you consider as your top
athletic accomplishments?

“My top athletic accomplishments are being named team captain for both
football and lacrosse as a senior, being named MVP for football as a senior, and
being named all state and all conference in football (junior and senior year)
and lacrosse (junior year).”

What do you hope to accomplish or what goal do you hope to reach
before you graduate from high school?

“I hope to win a state championship in lacrosse this year. I also hope to establish
a championship culture in the younger grades to help the lacrosse program
have a bright future after I graduate.”

What has participation in sports taught you that has been a big help
in other areas of your life?

“Participation in sports has taught me the value of integrity and accountability.
This has helped me tremendously in academics because it fuels me to work hard
every day and I feel that I must improve as a student and as a person (through
service) everyday.”

How did you end up making your college decision?

“I chose Hamilton College because I loved the curriculum at the school and I
also really liked the football staff. Furthermore, the people at Hamilton were so
friendly and well-rounded that it made me want to go there in order to improve
as a person, a student, and as an athlete.”

What is the most exciting thing about playing lacrosse to you?

“The most exciting things about playing lacrosse are spending time with
teammates and learning valuable life lessons from Coach Touma. My teammates are
great people and I love to spend time with them; whether it is eating barbeque
or actually playing lacrosse, we have a lot of fun together and also challenge
ourselves to improve. Coach Touma not only teaches us to be better lacrosse
players but he teaches us to be better men by instilling in us values such as
integrity and accountability.”

How well do you perform in the classroom?

“I have a 4.158 gpa. I am president of the French Club, co-president of the Military
Support Club, a sector leader for the Buccaneer Investment Group, and a
school house captain. I am a member of both the National Honor Society and
the Cum Laude Society. I am an International Baccalaureate student and won
the IB Biology Award as a junior. I have been named to the Head of School’s list
5 times and the honor roll once.”

Are you involved in any community service projects?

“I help organize the Special Olympics ceremonies that are held at Country Day
every year. I work with the USO and Bank of America to help organize the
assembly of care packages for deployed soldiers or their children and spread
awareness of the support soldiers require to better fulfill their duties and to
show our gratitude. I also participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters.”
