Kevin Dobos is Kent State Bound For Baseball
Marvin Ridge High School senior baseball and
football player Kevin Dobos recently made a verbal
commitment to attend Kent State University where
he will play baseball. The 18 year old son of Tim and
Marci Dobos has worked extremely hard over the
years to earn an opportunity to play college baseball.
Before he takes off for Ohio, Kevin has a busy
season planned as quarterback with the Mavericks
football team and catcher with the Mavericks baseball
This past spring, Kevin played a big role with the
baseball team, helping the Mavericks to their first
ever state title in baseball. His work on the diamond
caught the attention of the Kent State staff,
and eventually led to the scholarship offer.
“I chose Kent State because right from the beginning
it felt like I belonged there. Kent is a great
college town that supports both a strong school and
the sports played there. Also, the coaching staff is
tremendous and they have a great tradition of winning.”
Before the All-Conference catcher cast his lot
with Kent State, he looked at many other schools.
“Leading up to my commitment to Kent State, I
had been on visits and/or had been in contact with
UNC-Asheville, Gardner-Webb, Winthrop, George
Washington, UNC-Charlotte, and UNC-Greensboro.”
In the end, Kent State kept calling his name.
With his decision in the rear view mirror Kevin
can now reflect back on this past baseball season
and look ahead to football and his senior baseball
“Winning the state championship this past spring
was unforgettable. Not just because of the success of
the team, but also because of the group of guys that
came together to accomplish the goal we had set in
the past winter. This sense of true team is one that
I hope to have again but also one that I will never
Following the high school season, Kevin played
baseball in the Demarini Stars organization and began
to prepare for the football season.
“I am also playing football this year and my goals
this year for football are to enter the season as the
starting quarterback for the team. I want to be a
team leader and hopefully take our team to a conference
championship and make a very successful
playoff run with the great coaching staff we have.”
With Kevin’s dedication and clear focus on what
college he will attend now, the sky is the limit for
a great senior season. Nothing would make Kevin
happier than helping both of his teams reach the
Away from the field of play, Kevin focuses hard
on his studies, He carries a 4.2 grade point average
at Marvin Ridge and is enrolled in both Honors and
AP classes. Kevin fully understands the role academics
must play in preparing him for his future.
The South Charlotte Sports Report salutes Kevin
Dobos on a job well done and we wish him the best
of luck going forward at Kent State.
